Karuna Charities New York, Inc. was established in 1993 by Mrs. Lekha Sreenivasan, a woman endowed with boundless energy and the spirit of universal friendship. This organization fulfills a simple need — bridging the gap between those willing to assist and those in dire need. As its name suggests, “Karuna,” or compassion towards the desperate and the needy, was the motivating force behind the organization’s inception.
Operated entirely by volunteers, Karuna Charities extends financial assistance to those in greatest need. In addition, every dollar is used directly for charitable causes, with no administrative expenses.
Under the visionary leadership of its late founder, Mrs. Lekha Sreenivasan, Karuna Charities is governed by a body of twenty officers and three directors. Over the years, Karuna has donated over a million dollars in cash and over half a million in goods. Its primary beneficiaries have been individuals needing expensive life-saving treatments, orphanages, homes for the elderly, soup kitchens, shelters for battered women, and food banks. Since 2020, we have donated money to local food banks and pantries that many depended on due to COVID-19. The organization was able to support pediatric cancer patients and adults suffering from chronic kidney disease and cancers, plus help many to alleviate poverty.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our sponsors, advertisers, members, and to everyone who donated for their valuable contribution.
Thank you for helping us help the helpless.
